ETS 9mm/.40 Cal Universal Speedloader for Pistols. Shown with ETS polymer and steel Omega magazine.

Elite Tactical Systems Group (ETS) recently sent me its 9mm/.40 Cal Universal Speedloader for Pistols for evaluation. ETS also refers to it as a C.A.M. (Complete Ammo Management) loader. The ETS 9mm/.40 caliber loader, now in its second generation boast a load time of under 10 seconds. ETS bills it as “the world’s fastest speedloader”. Based on my own experience with the loader, I have absolutely no reason to doubt that claim. It is lightning fast.

The loader works in a similar manner to a stripper clip but there is another plus it allows you to scoop ammo directly out of the box. Magazine loaders that scoop ammunition directly from ammo boxes are not new. For example, B&T has manufactured one for the MP5 magazine and is currently manufacturing one for 9mm B&T SMG magazines. However, to my knowledge, ETS was the first to apply the concept to a pistol magazine.

In the second-generation loader, ETS has made some subtle but significant improvements to the original design. One of the standout features of the loader is its self-centering mechanism, which was one of the second-generation improvements. This unique design allows for the feed lips to automatically align themselves, accommodating both single and double stacked magazines. In the first-generation loader, there was some wobble with single stack mags, and it was difficult to consistently get the mag lips correctly aligned. The self-centering feature, coupled with an improved mag insertion process, makes it compatible with a wider range of magazines than its predecessor. The loader features a unique internal geometry to ensure rounds are loaded properly without damaging the feed lips of the magazine.

The loader has been designed for practicality. It is small enough to toss into a range bag, making it a convenient tool for any shooting enthusiast. The loader is made of a durable polymer, keeping it light weight and ensuring it can withstand the rigors of regular use. It is also a simple design with only two parts.

Compatibility.

ETS has conducted extensive testing on the loader. The results show that it works with virtually all brands of pistol magazines, whether they are double or single stack. However, there are a few exceptions. The loader is not compatible with STI 2011® mags, Taurus® PT709 and G3c mags, Walther® CCP mags, SIG SAUER® P938® mags, and mags that are not the size of a standard magazine.

In terms of ammunition, the loader has been tested with all types of ammo and has shown excellent performance. Although designed for 9mm and .40 caliber, it will work with .357 SIG ammo but can sometimes dent the casings. I have tested the loader with a variety of 9mm and .40 caliber pistol mags, both single and double and stack, as well as a variety of ammo types, and have not had any issues.

ETS designed the loader so that anyone can use it. As the round count increases, the pressure needed to load the magazine will go up. Technique is important. It is important to ensure that the magazine remains fully seated during the loading process. Some people find that bracing the base plate of the magazine against their chest helps with the loading process. Apply smooth, even pressure during loading. Avoid using undue force when pressing the plunger to load rounds.

Lubing is also important to ensure the loader operates smoothly. The feed ramp inside the loader comes pre-lubricated but I put some of additional lube on it when it arrived. It is recommended to lubricate it frequently upon initial use. It helps during the break-in process and if you are using ammo with a higher coefficient of friction, such as steel case ammo. Although you can use a drop of any light oil, such as gun oil, I recommend using a quick-drying silicone or PTFE spray dry-film lubricant instead as they do not attract dirt or fouling and provide longer lasting lubrication.

You can load up to 10 rounds at a time with the ETS loader. Ammo can be scooped directly from the box.

Simple to Use

The loader comes with illustrated instructions. ETS also has an instructional video showing the entire loading process on its website. Using the loader is a simple, straightforward process. Here are the steps:

Insert the Magazine: Start by inserting the magazine into the loader. Ensure that it is pushed fully forward until it clicks. Do not slam the magazine into the loader as doing this may damage the loader.

Scoop the Ammo: You can scoop up to 10 rounds of ammo at a time directly from the box. You don’t even have to touch the ammo. Simply position the loader and slide it over a row of ammo to pick up it up. The loader has a channel that holds the ammo by the rim. If you buy ammo in bulk, you will need to insert the rounds into the loader by hand. The loader holds up ten rounds at a time. Once the rounds are in the loader, rotate it so the bullet tips of rounds are facing up.

Load the Magazine: Put the plunger on the loader and onto the ammo. Compress the plunger to load the rounds into the magazine. Repeat loading process until magazine is fully loaded.

Troubleshooting: If you do encounter any problems loading, it is most likely caused by either failure to fully seat the magazine into the loader or failure to lubricate the loader. By addressing these two common issues, you can ensure smooth and efficient operation.

Keeping It Together: I use a rubber band or elastic hair tie to keep the plunger attached it to the main body of the loader when it is in my range bag. That way they will not become separated and force me to dig around in the bag to find both.

Final Thoughts

The ETS 9mm/.40 Cal Universal Speedloader for Pistols is an excellent product that combines speed and versatility into a compact and user-friendly design. If you do a lot of shooting and load a lot of magazines, you will definitely want to check it out. ETS offers a 100% satisfaction money back guarantee, allowing you to try out the loader risk-free for 30 days.

The loader has a MSRP of $29.95. It is available in either black or red. It comes with a lifetime warranty. ETS also offers universal speedloaders for .380 and .45 ACP calibers and for rifle/SMG magazines. They work in the same manner.
