Steyr is one of the most respected names in European firearms manufacturing. They are most known today for their AUG rifles, which are indeed still as futuristic as they were 40 years ago. But if you take a step back from that and look further back, you will see a long history of quality and innovative firearms production. Steyr developed a straight pull bolt action rifle in the late 1890s, which was very different and advanced when compared to the traditional repeater rifles of the time.

In the early 1990s, Steyr designed and developed the Steyr M-series of pistols. The pistols were first released in the spring of 1999 as the M9. The M9 pistol works off of a chassis system where the rails and the firing controls are all contained in a removable block that is secured in the frame.

This pistol was very ahead of its’ time in my opinion. The sights throw people off a bit if they don’t know how to use them, but I think they make the pistol much easier to shoot accurately.

This pistol is easily one of my favorite striker fired pistols. It has performed very well for me and has just one of the coolest designs I have seen.

  1. The first pistol I ever owned was a Steyr S40 I loved it and it was a great pistol but I ended up selling it. A few years ago I decided to pick up a new one I ended up getting an M9A1. I found the contoured grip a bit uncomfortable for my big mitts but overall I loved the trigger and the overall feel of the pistol. What I did not love was the reliability even after hundreds of rounds I was lucky to get through a magazine or two without at least a failure or two I ended up getting rid of it hopefully steyr will get the kinks worked out of their pistol line as if the guns were reliable they would be a hit.
