I believe it’s been the last two years that I’ve been wearing the MOD-1 from C&G holsters on nearly a daily basis. It’s a great low vis item. This item was co-created by the founder of the brand 1 Minute Out, Jamey Caldwell, with C&G. I wanted something that would not only hold my pistol but hold an extra magazine too. Getting something that didn’t give me comfort issues, and solved my concealed carry needs was solved with this holster. It is a quality kydex IWB holster for the Glock 19 and Streamlight TLR-7 Sub Ultra-Compact Weaponlight with a low-profile concealment wing (Darkwing). It is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve tried a few other holsters, and I know what works for me. I think it is important to test different holsters and find what works for your body type. I have an average to slim, athletic build. I like having a full size pistol with a light. The appendix carry works well for me and my lifestyle.
Most of my carrying time is spent using an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster in the appendix position (ie. 1 o’clock) but I’ve also carried strong side hip (3 o’clock), kidney position (4-5 o’clock). I have used the Crossbreed, Aliengear, and many other notable and less notable holsters. It’s important to test-out and own a variety of holsters, for various uses, and you should purchase the best that you can afford. Never buy junk. A Spotterup writer turned me onto C&G holsters, and I started by using the Mod 1. At first, I used the non-pistol light set-up. Once I started using a light with my pistol, I moved over to this current version.
The gun and light slide smoothly into the holster until you hit the trigger guard. There is solid locking retention; it’s an audible and tactile “click” when securely holstered. So, there is resistance which is necessary for keeping your pistol fully seated into the holster. You can draw your pistol easily and smoothly. It won’t come out on it’s own. I haven’t tried it wrestling on the ground with anyone yet; but I suspect that my pistol will stay put. All the hardware has an added treatment (salt bath nitriding) for the strength and prevention of rust and corrosion. It is 100% made in America, by Veterans and Law Enforcement, and also guaranteed for life.
This holster fits Gen 3, 4, 5 – 19X, 45 and 17 Glock pistols. There is a red dot cut out to fit any red dot on the market today (Trijicon SRO, Leupold DeltaPoint, Sig Romeo, etc.) It has extra tall sight channels to allow for tall suppressor sights and an open bottom for threaded barrels & compensators. What I like about the holster are the custom Discreet Carry Concepts metal clips; the clips are very strong and they will grab onto either 1.75″ or 1.5″ Belts. You can really tug open the clips to get them seated over your belt, and they won’t break or lose shape. The holster does works best with the C&G EDC Belt system. The holster is CNC designed and manufactured – precise to .003 inches! .093″ thick for durability and quality.
Another great thing about this holster is you can choose the spare mag holder attachment, you can remove the mag holder, or you can add a handcuff holder or light. They are working on offering a fixed blade option. You can adjust the ride height, as it suits you. This is one of the best features. You can really customize it to your body type and use. There is a tension adjustment. The patent-pending hinge system conforms with the body during movements.
Note the image of the holster with the dark wing. This was developed to give the holster a low profile by turning the holster and gun into your body. The wing has a textured face which keeps it close to your inner belt so it doesn’t shift. The edge of the pistol grip is the hardest part of the gun to conceal. Something as simple as a small wing makes a significant difference in how much your gun will print through your clothes.
If you want to know if a holster is comfortable for you, wear it all day, doing different things such as driving for hours, walking and turning your torso at times. I’ve heard a few shooters say that the wing adds too much pressure, but I don’t think so; lots of great kydex holster manufacturers use it.
The design is clearly the result of a lot of testing by Jamey and C&G and the crew at C&G. I like simplicity and this is pretty simple, yet effective. This is my setup and I won’t be changing it anytime soon. C&G offers free shipping for orders over $99.00 and also quickship. It retails for $139.99. It only comes right-handed and in the color black.
