The Foley Low is surprisingly comfortable for everyday wear. The upper is lightweight and breathable, making them great for warmer weather, while the sole provides decent cushioning for short walks or casual outings. With its clean, casual design, it pairs effortlessly with everyday outfits, and I’ve frequently paired it with my 5.11 Stryke pants when I do my long hikes in the woods. The design is iconic — simple, sleek, and its available in two colors: Tripe Black and Tropical Navy. Whether you’re wearing jeans, shorts, or even skirts, these sneakers can elevate the look with their minimalist charm.
Similar to the 5.11 McClane, the Foley uses a drop-in Ortholite X-40 footbed that delivers excellent cushioning and arch support. Known for its high-rebound performance, the Ortholite X-40 footbed offers over 40% elasticity for enhanced shock absorption. This breathable material helps prevent odor and fungus growth, retaining its shape and performance over time. The footbed is also removable and washable, ensuring that your sneakers stay fresh and hygienic.
This sneaker incorporates a well-padded collar and tongue for added comfort. The five pairs of reinforced eyelets ensure secure lacing. With its Vibram outsole, the Foley excels in delivering superior traction across a range of environments, making it a versatile performer for diverse activities.
The outsole features a hexagonal lug pattern and Vibram’s proprietary XS Trek™ rubber compound. XS Trek, which includes 5% recycled rubber, is known for its flexibility, wet traction, durability, and comfort, especially on uneven terrain. This non-marking outsole is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use, offering a great balance of traction and resilience. It is also resistant to abrasion, oil, and water, making it ideal for demanding environments.
Ballistic nylon upper for lightweight and maximum durability
The roomy toe box ensures comfort and helps prevent issues like blisters or ingrown toenails. However, these shoes run true to size, so you might want to go up one size if you prefer a less snug fit. I am a 7.5 and needed to go to the size 8. Shoes generally require a break-in period. Please keep in mind that sizes and fit may vary due to individual foot shapes, and all new shoes require some kind of testing. I prefer to purchase my shoes in stores rather than online. The shoes get more pliable as you use them.
Priced at a reasonable $80.00 USD on the official 5.11 Tactical® website, the Foley offers great value.
5.11 Hexgrip Vibram full-rubber outsole for traction and durability on multiple surfaces
In Summary: The 5.11® Foley is a versatile footwear option that combines style, performance, and comfort. The shoes are designed with a relatively low-profile fit, which means they might not provide the same level of ankle support as a high-top tactical boot or hiking shoe. I think at $80.00, these are worth the price.
