UPDATE: As of Sept 3rd I’ve had these a month. They are excellent on the trail, and I really like how well the outsole tread grips terrain. I’ve used them on scree covered trail at the Bull Run Occoquan trail. The upper is light and flexible. I’ve been strengthening my feet after a peroneal strain on my right foot. Excellent for running.

Before I get started I must note that I received these shoes from XERO as a courtesy from the manufacturer so I could test it and give my honest feedback. I am not bound by any written, verbal or implied contract to give this product a good review. All opinions are my own and are based off my personal experience with the product.

The XERO Shoes Scrambler Low with Michelin Fiberlite Sole is a trail shoe that merges innovation and performance to deliver a remarkable outdoor experience. Built for those who seek both versatility and reliability on the trails, this shoe stands out with its unique features and exceptional traction technology. I’ve enjoyed every shoe that XERO has sent to me over the years. If you like low profile shoes, than this brand is for you. In fact, writer Jordan McDougal has quite a few 50 and 100 mile races under his belt in the number one spot. Read his XERO shoe review below. He uses this brand from time to time.

OUTSOLE

The big standout feature of the Scrambler Low is its Michelin Fiberlite Sole. Michelin, is a renowned name in tire manufacturing. This shoe brings a new level of traction to the trails. The sole’s design incorporates Michelin’s tire tread technology, resulting in an outsole that offers unparalleled grip on various terrains. Whether you’re navigating rocky paths, slippery surfaces, or loose gravel, the Michelin Fiberlite Sole ensures surefootedness and confidence in your every step. The sole uses Michelin’s Fiberlite technology, an embedded textile layer that creates a thin, lightweight, flexible, strong product.

COMFORT

At just 9.3 oz. per shoe (M9) the Scrambler Low weighs less than many shoes or sandals. Comfort is a key consideration for any trail shoe, and the Scrambler Low delivers in this aspect as well. The shoe features a minimalist design that allows for a close connection to the ground, enhancing your awareness of the trail’s texture and contour. Despite its minimalist approach, the shoe still provides adequate cushioning and support, ensuring a comfortable experience even on longer hikes. All Xero Shoes feature a wider, foot-shaped toe box that lets your toes spread and relax, a non-elevated “zero drop” heel for proper posture, low-to-the-ground design for perfect balance and agility. I truly like the wider toe box because of my flat, wide feet.

FUNCTION

The shoes provide the feet that feeling of freedom and natural comfort. They are very pliable and will move as your feet move. The low-profile design of the Scrambler Low not only contributes to its minimalist aesthetics but also aids in maintaining stability on uneven terrain. The shoe’s lightweight construction further enhances its agility and responsiveness, allowing for quick movements and adjustments as you navigate challenging trails. These shoes can be used in the gym for basic Olympic movements, such as the Push Press or Push Jerk; the zero drop allow the feet to sit flat and not at an angle, for an excellent vertical drive with the weights. I can use mine comfortably while swinging my mace.

DURABILITY

I’ve only had the shoes for a few weeks but I am not concerned with the durability. I’ve had success before with many of their other models. The durability of the Scrambler Low is another highlight. The Michelin Fiberlite Sole, in addition to providing exceptional traction, offers impressive resilience against wear and tear. This ensures that the shoe remains a reliable companion for numerous hikes, making it a cost-effective investment for outdoor enthusiasts. The use of the Fiberlite Sole is a big step up from what the originally used. You will get the grip that you need when using these on mixed terrain.

COST and more

At $119.00 they are priced the same as similar shoes from other brands. I think it is priced fairly and the outsole should last longer than shoes using EVA foam. While the Scrambler Low boasts numerous strengths, it’s important to consider individual preferences. The minimalist design might not be ideal for those who require significant arch support or substantial cushioning. Additionally, the shoe’s sizing and fit should be carefully considered, as a proper fit is essential for comfort and performance on the trails. I do recommend using an insert if you want added padding. In conclusion, the XERO Shoes Scrambler Low with Michelin Fiberlite Sole is a trail shoe that truly raises the bar in terms of traction and performance.

  1. How are these on wet roads during a rain, are they slippery at all? I’m trying to find an alternate shoe when it’s raining, my Prio’s are too slippery when the road is wet
