The XERO Shoes Ridgeway – Retro-Inspired Waterproof Hiker is a unique and intriguing addition to the world of hiking footwear. Before I get started I must note that I received these shoes from XERO as a courtesy from the manufacturer so I could test it and give my honest feedback. I am not bound by any written, verbal or implied contract to give this product a good review. All opinions are my own and are based off my personal experience with the product.
STYLE
XERO created a retro-inspired design with modern technology. These shoes cater to both outdoor enthusiasts and fashion-conscious individuals. I have so many solid black and brown boots. Getting these boots from XERO was refreshing. These are great for hiking, and jogging and even pairing with blue jeans for heading out into the city.
As a versatile waterproof hiker, the Ridgeway aims to provide comfort, style, and performance on the trails while maintaining a distinct aesthetic. One of the standout features of the Ridgeway is its throwback design. Drawing inspiration from classic hiking footwear of the past, these shoes evoke a sense of nostalgia while incorporating contemporary materials and construction. The result is a distinctive look that sets them apart from more conventional hiking boots. However, it’s worth noting that the retro-inspired design might not appeal to everyone. While some individuals will undoubtedly appreciate the unique style, others might prefer a more modern and streamlined aesthetic. The shoes come in two colors: Fallen Rock and Glazed Ginger.
FUNCTION
From a functional standpoint, the Ridgeway delivers on several fronts. The waterproof construction is a notable highlight, ensuring that your feet stay dry even in wet and challenging conditions. This makes the shoes suitable for a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking through muddy terrains and tackling unexpected rain showers. I have used thick boots for years, but I’ve really gotten into the vibe of using minimalist footwear. These are great for short hikes and runs.
COMFORT
Comfort is paramount for any hiking footwear, and the Ridgeway doesn’t disappoint. The shoe features a roomy toe box that allows for natural toe splay, reducing the likelihood of discomfort and blisters during long treks. The minimalist design aims to provide a closer connection to the terrain while offering sufficient cushioning and support. This is particularly appealing to those who prefer a more “barefoot” feel without sacrificing protection. However, the minimalist approach to cushioning and support may not suit those who require a higher level of impact protection or arch support.
Traction is also well-addressed in the Ridgeway. The outsole design incorporates rugged lugs that offer reliable grip on a range of surfaces, enhancing stability and reducing the risk of slips on slippery trails or uneven terrains.
In terms of sizing, XERO Shoes recommends carefully following their sizing guidelines to ensure an optimal fit. Given the importance of proper fit for hiking footwear, this attention to sizing is crucial to prevent discomfort and potential injuries on the trail. They price at $139.00.
- Cost 4/5 about standard for this kind of shoe
- Comfort 4/5 so far so good. No issues at all. No hot spots.
- Durability 5/5 I’ve only had these two weeks but like them a lot. I have very wide feet.
- Functionality 5/5 They do what the company states they do. Good gripping outsole.
- Weight 5/5 Lighter than most hiking boots; this doesn’t detract from its function.
- Overall Rating 23/25
