Pakistan has alleged that U.S. military equipment abandoned in Afghanistan has found its way into the hands of militant groups in other countries, facilitated by the Taliban. This occurred after the disastrous withdrawal by the Biden Administration.

Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has claimed that militant groups in Pakistan are now using American military equipment, including night vision goggles and firearms, in their operations. This equipment is believed to have been obtained through the Taliban. Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP): One of the groups mentioned in the context is the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has reportedly increased its attacks on government forces in Pakistan in recent months.

The United States abandoned approximately $7 billion worth of military equipment in Afghanistan as part of the withdrawal in 2021. This equipment included firearms, ammunition, helicopters, vehicles, and more. Among the equipment left behind were over 40,000 out of 96,000 military vehicles, including 12,000 Humvees. Additionally, just under three-quarters of the 427,300 weapons provided to Afghan forces were abandoned, along with significant quantities of ammunition and specialty munitions.

Pakistani officials claim that the TTP has boasted about possessing weapons with advanced targeting systems, such as laser and thermal systems. This has allegedly enabled them to engage security forces at longer ranges than before. These claims come in the context of the second anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. President Biden marked the occasion with a statement acknowledging the sacrifices of U.S. service members during the conflict. The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan left many Americans and Afghan allies in the country under Taliban rule, raising significant challenges and concerns about the outcome of the withdrawal.
