Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted on Friday that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was responsible for the demise of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the rebellious mercenary leader who perished in a mysterious plane crash alongside his key subordinates last month.

During a conference in Kyiv, Zelensky, while lacking specific evidence to support his claim, casually mentioned this when questioned about the Russian president. He stated, “The prevalent information we have suggests that he was involved in Prigozhin’s demise – no alternative narratives exist. This also sheds light on his rationality and indicates his vulnerability.”

In response, the Kremlin vehemently denied any involvement in the plane crash, emphasizing that they would thoroughly investigate all potential causes, including the possibility of foul play. Putin’s regime categorically dismissed the allegation that he had ordered the deaths of Prigozhin and his associates as a baseless fabrication. This summer, Prigozhin led a brief mutiny within Russia, posing the most significant challenge to Putin’s authority since his ascent to power in 1999. Consequently, the Kremlin leader accused the instigators of the mutiny of “treason” and a “betrayal.”

Throughout Putin’s 23-year tenure, many of his critics have met uncertain fates or narrowly escaped fatal incidents under unclear circumstances.
