Three IDF soldiers lost their lives when Hamas launched a series of rockets toward the Kerem Shalom border, a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza from Rafah.

The attack, claimed by Hamas, resulted in the deaths of three IDF soldiers and left at least 10 individuals wounded, as reported by the Jerusalem Post. Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba received 10 injured persons, including three in serious condition, two in moderate condition, and five with minor injuries.

The fallen soldiers were identified as Staff Sgt. Ruben Marc Mordechai Assouline (19), Staff Sgt. Ido Testa (19), and Staff Sgt. Tal Shavit (21). Assouline and Testa served with the 424th Infantry Battalion in the 84th Givati Brigade, while Shavit served in the 931st Infantry Battalion with the 933rd Nahal Brigade.

In response, the IDF stated that approximately 10 projectiles were fired from the Rafah Crossing area toward Kerem Shalom. Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets promptly targeted the launcher and a nearby military structure. The IDF condemned Hamas for launching rockets near civilian shelters, emphasizing the group’s exploitation of humanitarian facilities and the civilian population.

The Kerem Shalom border crossing was reopened to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza following pressure from President Joe Biden’s administration. This move comes after previous attacks by Hamas on the crossing in 2021, disrupting aid flow to Gaza civilians.

In retaliation for Hamas’ actions, Israel closed its border, the primary gateway for humanitarian assistance into Gaza.
