The ORIGIN® MOAB Stretch Cotton Pant has been gaining attention for its unique blend of comfort, durability, and style. As with all ORIGIN products it features 100% American materials and is 100% American made. I previously reviewed the ORIGIN Delta 68 jeans in Spotter Up. They are outstanding jeans, Naturally, when the new for 2024 MOAB Stretch Cotton Pant came out I immediately put in an order.
A little background is in order. New England native Pete Roberts established ORIGIN USA in 2012, although the ORIGIN brand was created by Pete in 2009. As an entrepreneur and now CEO, Pete had firsthand experience of the harsh impact of deindustrialization on his community. He saw factories close, jobs outsourced, and families struggling. Inspired by these challenges, he envisioned a revival.
Pete’s vision was audacious and unique, challenging the norm of overseas sourcing. He pledged that ORIGIN would embody American ingenuity and craftsmanship, without any shortcuts or compromises. As the company grew, it breathed new life into rusty, long-abandoned equipment, transforming them into innovative solutions.
Jocko Willink, a decorated retired U.S. Navy SEAL officer, best-selling author, and leadership consultant, co-owns ORIGIN. He also hosts the popular Jocko Podcast, discussing topics like military history, fitness, and personal growth.
Jocko joined forces with ORIGIN in 2017 after recognizing Pete’s efforts (both are Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belts). They connected deeply, spending hours in conversation, much to their wives’ amusement. Their partnership was solidified over a steak dinner and a handshake in New York. Subsequently, they co-founded JOCKO FUEL, LLC, a separate entity from ORIGIN, focusing on nutritional supplements.

Fabric
The MOAB Stretch Cotton Pant is made from a 9.5 oz (medium weight) textured, stretch canvas that is 98% cotton and 2% spandex. This high-performance blend of materials provides the pants with a unique combination of durability and flexibility. Cotton, making up the majority of the blend, is renowned for its breathability, softness, and durability. It’s a natural fiber that’s comfortable to wear and easy to care for, making it a staple in the fashion industry. The addition of 2% spandex (also known as elastane or Lycra®), a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity, introduces a degree of stretch to the fabric. This enhances the comfort and fit of the garment,
The addition of spandex gives the pants a degree of stretch, allowing for greater mobility and comfort. The blend results in a canvas that is not only robust and comfortable but also has a slight stretch, making it ideal for a wide range of applications. The combination of these two materials provides the perfect balance of comfort, durability, and flexibility. Stretch fabric not only tend to wear better but they are accommodating to IWB holster carry. They also allow you to move more freely and comfortably.
The fabric blend should maintain its color reasonably well, especially if you follow proper care guidelines. However, like any fabric, it may experience some fading over time due to wear and exposure to light. Any fading will be more noticeable with darker colors than lighter colors. Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low.
Design and Features
The design of the MOAB Stretch Cotton Pant features classic five-pocket styling, an inverted back yoke, double back belt loops (7 loops total), and a fully gusseted crotch. It has an internally elasticized waistband to ensure a comfortable fit and to preserve a sleek, finished exterior look.” These features enhance the fit and functionality of the pants, making them suitable for a wide range of activities. The pants also feature double-needle topstitching on both the inseam and outseam, giving them a rugged, premium finish.
The MOAB Stretch Cotton Pant is designed with two distinct styles, which cater to different preferences. One style is the “straight” fit (formerly “Legit Fit”), which offers a classic, timeless look. It’s fitted but not tight around the waist, seat, and thigh. It’s straight from the thigh to leg opening. The other is the “taper” style (formerly “Fighter Fit”), which is more contemporary. It’s fitted but not tight through the waist, seat, and thigh. There’s a taper the from knee to leg opening.
In addition to these, ORIGIN also offers a robust “double knee” version. This variant, available only in the ‘straight’ style, is designed with an extra layer of fabric on the thighs, knees, and leg-opening scuff guards for added durability for those who need it.
For those seeking a more casual or summery option, ORIGIN has the MOAB Stretch Cotton Short with a 9” inseam. The short has a looser, roomier fit for comfort and freedom of movement. Other features are identical to the pants.
All these options — the straight and taper pants, the double-knee version, and the shorts — are available in a variety of colorways. These include the earthy “Dark Khaki”, the cool “Cannon”, the warm “Sable”, and the neutral “Sandstone”. This range of colors ensures that there’s a perfect ORIGIN MOAB Stretch Cotton Pant or Short for every wardrobe and every occasion. I was provided with the straight leg version of the pant in the Sandstone colorway for evaluation.
