Achieving Good Kettlebell Swing Our sound quality obviously stinks but the concept Marty imparts is simple and effective. Marty is showing you that the kettlebell goes up rather than in an outwards direction. If you allow the kettlebell to go up then it will come down so you can re-chamber and re-swing the kettlebell. If you allow the kettlebell to go outwards then you are effectively letting it pull you in that direction and will waste the energy of the kettlebell swing and exhaust your muscles unnecessarily.
Keep in mind that if the kettlebell goes upward your posture will not change and you will not be off balance. If the kettlebell swings outwardly then you will be pulled outwardly and your posture and your ground (essentially your rooting or platform) changes.
The goal is to get vertical lift in order to train yourself to work efficiently with the kettlebell and it’s motion so you can accomplish high repetitions. This is particularly good for use in WODs that require doing bell work.
