Gloves likely aren’t among the first things that come to mind when one thinks of Vertx®. Well, they should be among them. The company offers some outstanding gloves designed to meet the needs of the armed professional. These currently include four different gloves—the Course of Fire, Move to Contact, Crisp Action, and Assault 2.0 gloves. Vertx recently provided me with its Course of Fire and Move to Contact gloves.
The Gloves
The Vertx Course of Fire glove is optimized to give you the best grip and materials without the bulk. The Vertx Move to Contact glove is designed with D3O® flexible padding technology to provide additional protection with comfort and mobility. It gives you the protection of a molded knuckle guard while maintaining a low profile. Both gloves are designed with a snug fit for a “second skin feel.”
The Vertx Course of Fire and Move to Contact gloves are packed with features, designed for durability, comfort, mobility, and the best grip. They both feature 50% 37.5® Polyester / 50% Merino Wool “no melt, no drip” construction with a durable, abrasion resistant mechanical knit stretch back of the hand fabric and 100% Pitards® Oiltac goatskin leather on the palm. A double-needle stitch is employed on all seams. A leather wrap slide guard between the thumb and index finger protects the back of hand while shooting. A trigger guard pad protects the knuckle while shooting. Conductive leather on the trigger finger, middle finger and thumb is compatible with touchscreen devices. A low-profile wrist and curved wrist table closure allow for extra articulation while keeping out debris. Tuckaway hang-pull loops allow you to attach the gloves to your gear.
The Materials
Vertx opted for the best materials for constructing its gloves. They may cost a bit more but offer outstanding performance. The 50% 37.5 Polyester / 50% Merino Wool fabric construction and Pitards Oiltac goatskin make a great team.
37.5 Technology is a dynamic thermoregulation technology that triggers off of moisture. The patented 37.5 technology uses active particles made naturally derived materials that are embedded in the fabric. They have billions of micropores, massively increasing the surface area of the material. They remove sweat in the vapor stage before liquid sweat forms keeping you cool in hot weather. They keep you warm in cold weather by trapping energy and removing moisture. They also help to control odor, which is an issue with many synthetic fabrics. The active particles provide lasting performance and never wash out.
Merino Wool is a natural fiber grown by Merino sheep. It’s thinner and softer than regular wool. This makes it great for wear next to the skin. Each fiber is naturally water-resistant and naturally helps regulate body temperature, transports sweat away as a vapor and helps prevent odors. It has fire-resistant properties and is durable.
Pitards Oiltac goatskin has built-in hold that increases when wet. It will never wash away, never wear away and functions in any weather. It has a distinctive grain that makes it more hard wearing. It’s also heat- and fire-resistant. Pitards has has almost 200 of years of leather making experience.
The Move to Contact glove features flexible D3O® 4mm padding with Impact Additives™(IA) that adds impact protection without reducing dexterity. D30 employs a patented technology that offers the thinnest and most advanced protection against impact. Developed for back-of-hand applications, IA offers up to 30% more protection at the same thickness. It dissipates energy from impacts It also also offers improved temperature stability in extreme hot and cold conditions. D30 technologies are recognized and trusted by the US Department of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defence to deliver comfortable, lightweight impact protection.
My Thoughts.
The Course of Fire and Move to Contact gloves are outstanding gloves that perform as advertised They have proven exceptional in their functionality. They’re comfortable, breathable, offer good dexterity and a great grip. The conductive leather works as well on my iPhone® touchscreen as a bare finger. The gloves run true to size and have a snug fit. The D3O IA padding on the Move to Contact glove provides excellent knuckle protection without bulk or loss of flexibility. The gloves appear very well made. I have no reason to doubt their durability
