Tifosi Optics is one of my favorite frame manufacturers. The company makes eyewear that is affordable, stylish and fits well and they are priced in the sub $100.00 range. This means they hit a sweet spot in the market for glasses with their offerings for eye protection. Tifosi started out primarily meeting the needs of cyclists, runner, outdoors and golf-types rather than the military and LEO’s.

You’ll see the atypical colored frames. Bright yellows and greens for that power look when you are out for a run or long Sunday bike ride. A very good selection of styles and colors are available to everyone. Eventually they branched into the tactical market and got a big endorsement from the National Tactical Officer’s Association (NTOA). Those looking for good glasses to wear while on law enforcement patrol or at the shooting range should take a look at Tifosi frames.

Tifosi sent Spotter Up quite a few frames to review. Each Tifois frame comes with a protective hard case and 3 interchangeable lenses for different weather conditions. I really appreciate them offering the array of different lens tints with their frames. Interchangeable parts are appreciated too if a part ever breaks. The majority of their glasses come in small, medium and large sizes to help you get a good fit. A few come in extra small. This is very important for wearers who want a good fit.

They have many, many choices for ball sports, biking or running, golf, tennis, outdoors and water sports. The lenses come in different colors and serve different purposes. Gray lenses reduce all light equally and is best for bright conditions. Brown lenses help objects to appear sharper and are good for judging distances. Yellow lenses enhances light and helps with depth perception. Clear lenses are best for protection.

Tifosi’s Tactical frame collection is available solely in a black matte finish and comes with a protective case not dissimilar from the Oakley frame line-up. Tifosi’s frames are all shatterproof polycarbonate and the glasses come with single lens or an optional interchangeable option with three lenses. Of course these meet or exceed the ANSI Z87.1 safety standards. This means impact, eye coverage and optical clarity are a must.

For the survivalist type, they are an alternative to the Oakley’s, 5.11, or Wiley X. Most of the other frame companes have a bit more weightiness to their look, a bit more breadth. Just because Tifosi has a leaner look doesn’t mean these are fragile tactical glasses. Keep in mind their tactical style frame mirrors what their sport line looks like. It’s meant to be trim and graceful and not feel like a lot of weight to distract you from activity. If you want something weightier go back to Oakley’s but keep an open-mind for Tifosi. I covered this before in a previous article-they are light-weight, very modern with a bit of flair, and definitely affordable. You’re guaranteed to get function, value, style and quality for under a hundred bucks with Tifosi.

One major thing to consider when buying glasses-they should fit your face. Sport glasses in particular should feel as if nothing is on your face when you are active. Frames should be flexible, and strong enough to handle abuse. You don’t want to purchase cheap eye protection that will fracture when you hit a tree, or when an object, such as a rock or an insect, hits you at 100 mph. There is nothing worse than wearing equipment that distracts you from completing your goal. Frames should protect you from wind, rain UV rays and be hydrophilic. This means the lenses are treated so that sweat will slide off the lenses. The lenses should also repel oil and sweat.

This means water molecules don’t stick to the glasses and it provides cleanliness of the lens and clear vision, a must for athletes, who are seeking moisture prevention purposes during athletic exertion.  The Dolomites retail for around $79.00. Another good-looking model is the Tifosi Tyrant 2 which comes in at the same price.
