When someone asks you if you’d like to borrow their $4,900 SR25, you say yes. At least I did. My boy lent me this gun to try out the new Eotech Vudu PRS (precision rifle scope) that sits on top of it.
The Vudu line is Eotech’s first entry in the PRS market and I was skeptical at first — like I would be with any company’s first try at a new market segment. After watching Garand Thumb’s review of the 1-6 version, I had less worries, but was still curious about the higher zoom 2.5-10, 3.5-18, 5-25, and 8-32 versions. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to try out this scope without buying it.
WHAT ELSE: Windage and elevation adjustment, according to Eotech, is 10 MRAD per rotation (0.1 MRAD each click) and an elevation and windage adjustment range of 29 MRAD per turret with Eotech’s super-simple one-piece “EZ Chek” zero stop. CR2032 battery for illum with push-button controls instead of rotational switch. 500 hrs. battery life, again, according to Eotech.
WHEN: When you need to hit that target at long ranges. Don’t waste this scope on an inaccurate or cheap gun. It has several illumination brightness levels — so you can use it at night — with an auto-off after 2 hours.
WHERE: Wherever you want to shoot something far away at.
HOW: Ocular adjustment (where you look in) is for reticle focus, parallax adjustment (left side) is for target focus, windage is for left/right, and elevation is for up/down. Boresight before going to the range and you’ll be able to zero no problem. The clicks are almost audible and have a very solid feel, so you’ll never be left wondering if you adjusted one or seven clicks.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION: This scope has incredibly clear glass. It’s 2 notches in clarity above the Vortex Viper PST (gen 1), in my opinion, which is a $1,100 scope. This bad girl features a reticle on the first focal plane (FFP). This means the reticle grows and shrinks with the zoom level, so subtensions are always the same value. 1 MRAD on the reticle at 3.5x is the same as 1 MRAD at 18x. It takes a step of calculation out of the equation, so you can get on target and engage quickly.
Handy note: 1 mil = subtension of 3.6 inches at 100 yards. Each click (0.1 mil is .36 inches on target at 100 yards). Also 7.2” at 200 yards, in case you can’t do math (0.1 mil is .72 inches at 200 yards).
