Jeans shown with Blackbeard gun belt
When I came home I found a box of mail waiting for me. I looked at the package and realized that inside the box were Origin jeans. I opened the mail and discovered that Origin sent me two pairs of jeans to review; the DELTA 68 and the FACTORY DENIM. I was excited to try them on, as I’d heard a lot of good things about them. Origin Jeans, is co-owned by Jocko Willink, a highly decorated retired U.S. Navy SEAL officer, best-selling author, and leadership consultant. The company built a name for itself by creating high-quality jeans that seamlessly blend style, comfort, and sustainability. Origin Jeans takes pride in its meticulous craftsmanship, ensuring that every pair of jeans is made with precision and attention to detail. From the selection of premium denim fabrics to the stitching and finishing touches, the brand’s commitment to quality is evident.
The DELTA 68 denim jeans were ordered in a LEGIT FIT. Origin jeans are based on standard American sizing. You should be able to order your typical jeans size. If you are unsure or in-between, Origin recommends sizing up. You may exchange new and unwashed jeans. My review here will be on the DELTA 68.
Excellent fit. I have muscular thighs. The jeans are cut roomy enough for any kind of build.
FIT
So far, I am very pleased with the jeans. Origin uses a super-stretch cotton/poly/Spandex blend for the material used to make their jeans. I like more roominess, so I generally go up a size or two up when getting jeans, because I prefer using an IWB holster with an extra magazine in it. I also like to run in jeans. I have been running in jeans over the last 30 years of time; this habit started years ago when my car once ran out of gas on my way to work during a hot summer, and I had to travel miles with a gas can to the gas station; now I am prepared. Also, I’ve been in dozens of violent encounters where I sometimes went to the ground with my combatant; it would have been great to have Origin jeans during those moments when I was wearing Levi’s. Also, jeans that ride high into the crotch when you are walking, kicking or running can be uncomfortable, and if they sag on your body it can be inconvenient too, at really inopportune moments. I like the fact that you can roll, squat, kick and run in these jeans comfortably. The DELTA 68 have 20% more stretch than the FACTORY DENIM, and are 8oz versus the 12oz of the DENIM.
Good room in the seat
Here is the breakdown:
- 9.25 oz. Super-Stretch
- 3/1 Right Hand Twill Denim
- 86% American Cotton, 12% ORIGIN PolySynth™ Polyester, 2% Spandex
- Machine wash warm. Tumble dry low. No bleach, No softeners. Wash with Darks Only.
I knew that my jeans would shrink just a little bit after a hot wash & hot dryer; after washing, and drying I put them on. They fit perfectly for my size and shape. Also, there is a bit of roominess in the thigh, right below the seat; this is excellent because you don’t want a skinny-jeans straight-leg cut if you intend to wrestle people to the ground. Mobility is preferable when potentially dealing with an attacker.
HAND and FEEL
The jeans are constructed from what they term ‘Delta Denim’, a proprietary textile that combines cotton, polyester and spandex for a super-soft, super-stretchy and super-strong fabric. The material is designed to adapt to your body and movements, whether you are squatting, rolling, riding or chilling. It also has antimicrobial and moisture wicking properties to keep you fresh and comfortable. The fabric is substantially stronger than 100% cotton denim, with a higher tear and tensile strength, as well as greater abrasion resistance. I noticed right away that the hand is sturdy and not thin. Although they are made with a blend, they feel stronger than jeans from other brands, and not as flimsy or thin; I illustrated this in a video comparing the stretching ability of Origin versus LAPG, Kitanica and Levi’s below. I’ve had Levi’s Denizen jeans tear down the rear twice on two pairs; those are also a denim Spandex blend. They are not well made.
Deep pockets. The pockets end on this pair of jeans where my finger is pointing.
The DELTA 68 jeans are a high-rise cut. The rise is the distance from the middle of the crotch seam (right between your legs) to the top of the waistband. It usually ranges from 7″to 12″. Jean rise is important because it determines where your pants sit on your body, which in turn creates your perceived waistline. The rise length affects the fit around your crotch and importantly the rise determines how your holster will fit inside your jeans. You do not want a billowy fit at the crotch or sagging; do choose jeans for a comfortable fit. I’ve written about the rise in my article titled Best Guide for Getting Tactical Jeans to Use with a Concealed Carry
A rise that is too high can cause pinching or irritation on your trunk, a rise that is too low doesn’t help seat a holster properly. The key take-away is to have a rise with enough structure to hold your holster. If the rise is too stretchy around the waist the jeans will be too soft and won’t secure tightly; the only thing really holding your firearm & holster secure is your belt. Be sure that both will support your holster & firearm. I found no issues with the DELTA 68; the combination of their elastic material, the six 2″ belts loops and the fact that the jeans are high-rise works. I don’t feel pinched at the waistline, and I have enough support for my holster and firearm. Additionally, I use the Blackbeard gun belt. It is one of the best gun belts out there, and is an excellent pairing of belt and jeans.
Waistbands should have enough room to stretch in order for you to insert a holster and pistol. Because your stomach expands or shrinks throughout the day adequate room allows your holster to fit comfortably even if you overeat. Jeans should fit perfectly around your waist with no need for a belt to hold them up but wearing jeans with gear is another story. Belts do help to keep the gun in place securely and prevents your jeans from sagging. If you are between sizes where the larger size is too large and the smaller size is too small then go for the larger size and wear a belt. Origin makes good use of their body mapping reverse yokes. The yoke provides structure to the looser parts of the garment. The jeans use what the label “Shark Fin” back pockets. The pockets are canted rather than stitched at a vertical angle. This allows you to easily access the gear stowed into your pockets quickly.
Spotterup writer Eugene Nielsen noted in his ORIGIN review how the use real indigo to get the rich color. Note: denim is a sturdy cotton warp-faced textile in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. This twill weaving produces a diagonal ribbing that distinguishes it from cotton duck. The most common denim is indigo denim, in which the warp thread is dyed, while the weft thread is left white. They call this Indigo Blue, the color you might commonly see on sales racks.
The jeans are dyed with real indigo, not synthetic, for a rich and authentic color. Indigo dye is a natural, organic dye extracted from the indigo plant. It has been used for thousands of years to dye natural fibers. Most of the jeans on the market today are dyed with cheaper synthetic dyes. Naturally-dyed jeans are better for the environment. They also tend to have more durability than synthetic-dyed jeans, especially with proper care.
Indigo-dyed jeans are a classic and versatile garment, but they require some special care to maintain their color and quality. The biggest mistake people make is washing them too often.
Wash them infrequently and inside out, using cold water and mild detergent. Avoid using bleach, fabric softener, or dryer sheets, as they can damage the dye and the fabric. Wash with dark colors only. Hang them to dry or tumble dry on low heat, and iron them on low if needed.
I noted in my product review of the Pentagon Jeans that although they are made of flex material, the waist band and the stove pipe legs are too narrow for most men with sizeable calves. They fit in the skinny jeans category and I don’t believe they are practical to run or fight in. Some jeans come with a gusset. A gusset is a diamond shaped piece of denim sewn into the crotch area of some brand of jeans. The gusset eliminates 4 seams coming together in one spot and creates freedom of movement and a more comfortable wearing experience. The Pentagon Jeans are made with a gusset however a gusset isn’t needed with any of the Origin jeans. The Origin DELTA 68 Denim Jeans are very comfortable. Regular jeans with standard denim do not give the flex, and therefore freedom of movement that the DELTA 68 ORIGIN do. The sturdy yet flexible fabric molds effortlessly to your body, providing a snug fit without feeling restrictive. The DELTA 68 are perfect for active people.
Canted pockets.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Like any other jeans, you can easily and comfortably carry your essentials like keys, wallet, and smartphone, leaving your hands free for more important tasks. You can easily run or wrestle in Origin jeans. They can withstand intense movements and high-impact maneuvers, due to their inherent stretch and flexibility. You can perform grappling techniques without feeling restricted. This adaptability on the mat and if you are on the street ensures that you can perform your craft without being hindered by your attire. One of the most appealing aspects of blue jeans is their sheer adaptability. They effortlessly complement any outfit, from a laid-back t-shirt and sneakers ensemble to a more refined button-down shirt and blazer combination. Their neutral tone plays well with virtually any color, making them a go-to choice for both casual and semi-formal occasions. Blue jeans at one time became an iconic symbol in pop culture, and was often associated with rebellion and nonconformity. You don’t become a rebel or a bad-ass wearing Origin jeans, but these jeans will allow you the comfort, and function needed to handle whatever trouble comes your way.
