They delve in and explain exactly what cellular level digestion means, why collagen is important, and what makes FrogFuel different. Simply put: most proteins are filtered but not broken down to the cellular level, therefor, our bodies have to work to break those proteins down.

The protein is made from one of the most abundant and arguably the most important parts of our body, collagen. Collagen is found everywhere in our bodies and is positioned where your knees, elbows, and shoulders hurt from all those bicep curls you do. Frog Fuel is very convenient to take. The packages are easy to open and the jelly-like liquid inside comes out easily regardless of temperature, save for the extremes. They’re small enough to fit in the waistband of your shorts, a small pocket, or taped around the frame of your bike for a long ride. They come with 21 amino acids, 72 calories, 8 grams of protein, 10 grams of carbs, and 0 grams of fat. You can easily mix the fuel with water if you want. Great for those hustlers, like cyclists and runners, who don’t want to waste time mixing items; just rip the package and drink it down.

The taste almost punches you in the taste buds (in a good way). They aren’t terribly sweet and have a bit of sour too (the punch). Because of their cellular level of absorption, I could feel the effects almost instantly. You can feel a jolt of energy come over you, a bit of a flush, from the beta-alanine. It isn’t an intense itching sensation like niacin, but enough to know it’s doing the job.  You’re not going to have to choke this fuel down like many proteins on the market. The caffeine is a good added value too.

The company promotes that FrogFuel is used as a medical food in over 1000 medical facilities. This is a true statement and I found that to be very notable and worthy because it is used in hospitals, “for long term care, bariatric, dialysis, and wound care”. I’m not a nutritionist or a doctor. I’m an end user. I like this product and can tell it works for me.

As a culminating event for the testing of FrogFuel I completed a triathlon sprint consisting of: 750m swim, 11-mile bike, and 3.7-mile run. I consumed one before the swim, one before the bike, and forgot to take one before the run. Throughout the whole event I had one quick cup of water and two FrogFuel Performance Protein Shots. Considering every event was done using the muscles, tendons, and strength of my one leg, I’d say FrogFuel worked great. I had a bit of cramping in my left leg on the last mile of the run but nothing too serious considering the environment and specifics.

At $48 for 24 1-2 ounce servings, the price is easily affordable. Because they’re made for obstacle course races, triathlons, longer events, and intense CrossFit sessions, 24 servings is about what’d you expect to carry you through a month or more. One pack carried me well over two months of intense training as well as the triathlon.

No doubt the product works. I wouldn’t’ mind seeing some a few more electrolyte salt ingredients like SaltStick does in relation to cramping but all in all, a great product.
