This summer the family and I were returning from a cruise in the UK and had a lay-over in Frankfurt, Germany. While walking around the airport waiting on our next flight, we found Anatomie Clothing being sold in a kiosk near our gate. What attracted us to stop and look at the clothing line was the simple color palette and very technical materials. They were mostly khaki, navy blue, white and black, with no variations of shades of those colors so they could be interchanged or matched up. After looking at the different items, we sparked up a conversation with the woman working there, she turned out to be the owner Kate Boyer. She was able to tell us all about the company and intent of the clothing line. We have been traveling a lot over the last several years and have taken most of them with just carry-on size bags. This makes lightweight, technical fabrics that dry fast a must have.
These clothes are made to travel and look good doing it. They are made from lightweight, wrinkle resistant European fabrics. The clothes are designed by Kate and her husband Shawn who both have an understanding of creating clothing that will fit and look good on any body type by utilizing materials that have a very good stretch property to them. Shawn, being a bodybuilder, understands that good fitting clothing is hard to find for athletic and active shaped men and has created some stylish form fitting clothing for just those body types. I ordered two different pants and jacket combos, the Alessio Five-Pocket Jean Style Pant with the Tanzania Safari Jacket in black and the Alessandro Cargo Pant with Daniel’s Denim Style jacket in Khaki along with two Vince Men’s V-Neck t-shirts and two Dylan Button-up Long Sleeve shirts to mix and match. They came with one of their lightweight packing cubes designed to hold a jacket, one or two pairs of pants and a couple shirts.
The clothes were shipped within a couple of days of each order I made. Anatomie offers free shipping on all orders over $100. They all come with a lifetime warranty for original owners covering the integrity of the materials. The follow-up and customer service has been outstanding, answering emails the same or early the next day for every inquiry. They have a couple of stores in the US (3 near Miami, Florida; Menlo Park, CA; Scottsdale, Arizona) and two in Italy where you can try on and buy direct. All of the items shipped in clear plastic to protect them from damage and stains allowing them to show up ready to wear.
The first trip we had planned that didn’t include a need for work clothes, was a weekend trip to Orlando, Florida to visit Walt Disney World in September. It is still a little hot and humid during that time of year. I wore the Alessandro Cargo pant and Dylan Button-up Long sleeve shirt to fly down and then spend the evening in the Magic Kingdom. The pants are a slimmer fit than I usually wear but they had tons of stretch and were very comfortable. The cargo pockets are a flat design riding at mid thigh and made of the same weight as the rest of the pants. The left front pocket had a small inner pocket that was large enough to hold my minimalist wallet and keep it secure while we were on the rides. The Dylan shirt was a form fitting design with four way stretch and a single breast pocket on the left side. Both of these pieces were very comfortable while flying down and lightweight enough to stay cool while walking around in the afternoon heat at the parks. After dinner the weather took a 180 and we had a thunderstorm with heavy rain. The pants got soaked but quickly dried out while walking around once the rain had stopped. They still looked fresh and wrinkle free. Although not an advertised property, they remained stain-free for the couple days I wore them, especially for being khaki colored. I added the Daniel Style Jacket in the evenings when it cooled off in the park.
The next day, I wore the Alessio five pocket style pants in black with a white Vince V-neck t-shirt. The pants were a little fuller cut, closer to my usual fit. The Vince shirts are a comfortable fit made from their wrinkle-free material, that will look good all day whether at work or play. It was hot out and I carried our family day pack around for part of the day. After sweating the shirt dried out very quickly and without staining, still looking good at the end of a full day in the park. In the evening, as it cooled off I pulled out the Tanzania Safari Jacket that was rolled up in our pack and wore it. The colors of most of the clothing pieces match each other so it’s easy to pair items or complete an outfit for the office. The Vince V-neck shirts are a very versatile shirt allowing you to look comfortable on your days off and professional when you need to be.
The Anatomie clothing line has been a great choice for travel allowing me to bring several pieces that mix and match and look both casual and dressy. Their wrinkle resistant materials allow them to take up minimal space and be rolled up in packing cubes or your carry-on luggage but still look good when it’s time to wear them. I was very surprised that for the solid darks and light colors that they remained stain free after full days of walking around a theme park. The women’s line is even more robust than the men’s with several styles to choose from and extended color palette and patterns.
Final Thoughts: Anatomie Clothing is the perfect solution for travelers, both for pleasure and professional reasons, allowing you to look good wherever you go. They pack up small, look good after being packed up and fit great. Don’t just be a traveler, be a good looking traveler. I will be buying more.
By the numbers:
Comfort – 5/5 The wrinkle resistant materials, with their stretch properties make for a good fit without the overly tight/restrictive feeling. Every piece I wore was a good fit at the correct size and stayed comfortable all day, even in the heat.
Durability – 4.5/5 So far, the clothing has remained snag-free and while following their wash recommendations still look new afterwards. To be honest, I will have to wear them on a few longer trips to see how they hold up with constant wear and wash rotations, like on an extended cruise or European multi-country vacation. It’s on the horizon
Functionality – 5/5 The clothing is well-made, fits good and looks good. The wrinkle-free and stretch properties make for great choices to travel light.
Weight – 5/5 The clothing is made of thinner stretch materials designed for packing up small, and the lighter weight fits into that design factor. Even the Jackets are a lighter weight but still keep you warm in the evenings.
Value – 4.5/5 These are on the high end for clothing, that being said if they continue to look good and hold up after multiple trips and washes they will be very worth the price. They are on par with other finer clothing manufacturers and brands, just more than what I am used to buying.
Overall rating – 4.8/5 Good looking clothes, designed to stay looking good while traveling the world in your carry-on. Go see the world and look good doing it.
