The Lewiston Police Department has verified that the active shooter situation took place across three different locations. These locations include Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant, Sparetime Recreation, and an as-yet-unidentified third location. Maine State Police issued a Facebook post to alert the public about this active shooting situation in Lewiston, a city of 36,000 residents located 35 miles north of Portland.
Central Maine Medical Center, a local hospital, declared that they are responding to a “mass casualty, mass shooter event.” At the time of their statement at 9 p.m., the hospital was unable to provide specific information regarding the number of casualties. They also mentioned that Central Maine Healthcare is working together with other nearby hospitals to accommodate patients.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office has released two photographs of the suspect connected to this active shooting situation in Maine. The individual in question was seen wearing a brown sweatshirt and was armed with a rifle.
Local authorities have advised residents in Lewiston to “shelter in place” and to “remain indoors with locked doors” for their safety.
