Woody Harrelson and Andy Serkis’ characters prepare to battle in the new ‘War for thePlanet of the Apes‘ trailer.

The movie is the third in the rebooted Planet Of The Apes franchise, which began in 2011 with the James Franco-starring Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and continued with Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes in 2014. The trailer for “War,” which is set two years after “Dawn”.

Andy Serkis stars as ape, Caesar, who leads an army of primates against human adversaries who are commanded by their Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

“I did not start this war — I fight only to protect apes,” Andy Serkis’ Caesar says in the official trailer for “War for the Planet of the Apes.”

“I offered you peace,” Caesar tells the ruthless Colonel. “I showed you mercy.”

“You talk about mercy?” he responds. “No matter what you say, eventually you’d replace us. That’s the law of nature.”

“War for the Planet of the Apes” hits theaters on July 14.
