I previously highlighted the Mantis-X firearms training tool in an article I wrote immediately following Spotter Up’s trip to SHOT show 2017 in Vegas this year. You can see my initial impression and experience with the system, and a nice explanation from Austin, the Mantis rep I talked to. I chose my product spotlight articles based on the booths I visited which left an impression on me, and that I found myself thinking about after the show ended, and the Mantis-X was definitely a highlight.

Myself and others have previously written in these pages about the benefits of dry-fire practice. I think it’s fairly common knowledge among the average population of gun-owners that if you plan on relying on a gun for self-defense–inside or outside your home–you need to incorporate a certain amount of practice with your weapons into your schedule. Since most people don’t have the ability to get live-fire practice on their own private ranges every day, a regular dry-fire practice routine is critical to maintaining and improving your firearms skills.

There are other good dry-fire training systems on the market, which can make your practice sessions both more productive and fun. What struck me most about this system is the amount of data it provides you, allowing you to get immediate feedback on your performance and adjust your fundamentals accordingly. Additionally, this system works with your own firearms, both dry AND live-fire, and the entire system retails for $159.00 on Amazon with a free software download, which is great value compared to other training systems on the market such as LaserLyte and Sirt systems.

In the below video, you can watch my entire run-down on the system, its components and how it works during live-fire. I test it out on a couple different pistols and one of my AR-15s, and ran through some dot-torture drills to see how using this system could help improve my fundamentals. As you will see in the video below, I was pretty impressed with this system, and can recommend it to other gun owners as an excellent training tool that can be used both on the range and in your home.
