The first trailer has been released for the new Bruce Lee biopic, Birth of the DragonBirth of the Dragon is a 2016 martial arts action film directed by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) and written by Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen J. Rivele (Nixon, Ali). The film stars Philip Ng (Once Upon A Time in Shanghai, Vegas to Macau) as Bruce Lee , Xia Yu (In the Heat of the Sun, The Painted Veil), and Billy Magnussen (Into the Woods, Bridge of Spies).

The movie focuses on Bruce Lee, and this true story, about his challenge of kung fu master Wong Jack Man in 1965 in San Francisco.  Here’s the synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of 1960s San Francisco, BIRTH OF THE DRAGON is a modern take on the classic movies that Bruce Lee was known for. It takes its inspiration from the epic and still controversial showdown between an up-and-coming Bruce Lee and kung fu master Wong Jack Man – a battle that gave birth to a legend.

Principal photography began on November 17, 2015 in Vancouver. It was selected to be screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is scheduled to be released on August 25, 2017 by Blumhouse Tilt and WWE Studios.

The film’s action sequences have been designed by renowned martial arts choreographer Corey Yuen, a graduate of the Peking Opera School.
