Thyrm® LLC has just come out with a new version of its excellent VariArc® Helmet Mount, called the VariArc-VS. There are now four versions of the VariArc Helmet Mount, each based on different helmet mounting systems. Whatever type of helmet you have, Thyrm has now got you covered.

Thyrm (pronounced “thē-ə-rəm”) is a family-run business founded by Andrew Frazier to create innovative products for tactical and wilderness applications. The company is named after the giant Thyrm, King of the Jötnar, who according to Norse mythology stole Mjölnir, the hammer of the thunder god Thor.

Thyrm VariArc Helmet Mount

The VariArc product line was originally conceived by Josh Jackson, retired law enforcement officer and lead instructor at LMS Defense. The new VariArc-VS also benefits from additional input from Jon “Mochabear” Dufresne, US Army Ranger and lead instructor at Kinetic Consulting. Jon’s LOLA mount inspired many of the features found in the VariArc-VS.

The VariArc Helmet Mount is ruggedly constructed and features a low-profile design. It has a full 360 degree rotational indexing light capability to direct light where you need it. It features locking teeth with positive locking in the forward position plus eight additional lower-force angles.

There are three versions of the VariArc Helmet Mount designed for helmet rails: the VariArc Ops-Core mounts on Ops-Core®/standard dovetail-style helmet rails; the VariArc Team Wendy mounts on Team Wendy® side mounts; and the VariArc M-LOK mounts on M-LOK® side mounts. All three of these versions attach to make a 3-slot, 4-ridge M1913 (Picatinny) accessory rail..

The Velcro-backed Thyrm VariArc-VS is a universal helmet mount. The VariArc features multi-directional indexing that shines light where you need it.

The fourth version is the VariArc-VS. It has umiversal; base that attaches to loop Velcro® on the helmet. No pre-existing mounting system is necessary. This can additionally create more usable real estate on helmets with otherwise crowded mounting systems. It easily mounts above ear-pro or back of helmet. The VariArc-VS comes with two attachments, allowing the user to set up the mount (using the included 9/64 in Allen/hex key) with either a Scout mount or a Picatinny rail to attach their light to.

Features of the VariArc-VS:

  • High-strength hook Velcro® that provides universal secure attachment with a space-efficient footprint

  • Both Picatinny rail and direct Scout light mounts included

  • Positively locks in the forward index position

  • Directs light through 360 degrees, with 8 additional lower-force index positions

  • Works in vertical positions for umbrella lighting rooms, canopy illumination, and IR strobe signaling

  • Can be used in downward angles for admin & task lighting

  • Angled pivot allows user to optimize mounting for a lower profile or a more vertical rotation plane

The VariArc-VS includes both a Picatinny rail and a Scout light mount, allowing for maximum compatibility with visible and IR lights.
  • Large openings on both ends of the base allow for retention cords including 550 paracord

  • Durable, reinforced polymer construction with stainless steel hardware

  • Weight 2 oz

  • Dimensions 5.5 x 3.5 x 1.25 in

  • Designed and made in the USA

  • Available in black, flat dark earth (FDE), and ranger green colorways

My Thoughts

Thyrm provided me with a sample VariArc-VS for evaluation before it was officially launched to the public. I currently have it mounted on a Team Wendy EXFIL LTP bump helmet which I use for training and other activities where non-ballistic head protection is appropriate.

The VariArc-VS is an exceptional product. It’s very well-designed, ruggedly constructed, and meets a very real need. One thing that I might suggest is that Thyrm include or offer a pre-cut loop Velcro adhesive strip for helmets that lack Velcro.

The Vari-Arc-VS has a MSRP of $42.99. To learn more or purchase, go to thyrm.com or your favorite Thyrm dealer. Government orders email: gov@thyrm.com.
