To give back to the Recon community in an homage to Magpul’s history, they designed the AKA KOA line of apparel. AKA KOA is the nickname given to Alpha Company 3rd Recon Bn (USMC Hawaii) by its Commanding Officer, Kent Bradford, in the late 1980s. Loosely translated, it means “Shadow Warrior” in Hawaiian. While it was intended to symbolize the military capability of the unit, it fast became the call sign for Alpha Company’s other skill set, making the most of the Hawaiian island lifestyle during the off hours.
A portion of the proceeds from the AKA KOA Clothing line will go to the USMC Reconnaissance Foundation. The foundation provides assistance to wounded Reconnaissance Marines and Marine Reconnaissance families. For more information about the foundation, please visit www.reconfoundation.org.
Named after the bay that houses MCBH, the Kaneohe Short Sleeve is the defining piece in their AKA KOA collection of “Serious Leisure” gear.
Reminiscent of aloha shirts that have been worn since the 1930’s, their one of a kind pattern was inspired by traditional Hawaiian Kapa Cloth, and features Magpul’s own AR15 wielding hula girl!

The Bonnell Short is a multifunctional short, great for outdoor activities, especially those near water.
The ultra lightweight, four way stretch nylon fabric has an antimicrobial treatment to prevent the growth of bacteria and keep you smelling fresh and is also quick drying. This short has an engineered gusset to really let you move. 5 extra large belt loops on the waistband allow for use with any belt, while the seamed back fits over you without the added bulk of a waistband. 6 pockets in total, with two zippered back welt pockets to keep out dirt, a hidden envelope pocket, a zippered hip pocket, and reinforced hand pockets. Metal zipper fly closure.
