When students in classes are taught to shoot a rifle, generally it is much easier to get the student to an acceptable level of competency and proficiency. When students learn how to shoot a pistol, the game changes and certain fundamental focuses must be amplified in order to establish acceptable competency.
My opinion of basic pistol classes is based on my personal experience. I have watched the process and order of teaching the fundamentals cause increased anxiety in new shooters. Usually they display bad habits that take a while to get corrected. The corrections usually are based in two fundamentals and principles that cause new shooters to miss.
If the students are taught to shoot properly from the beginning, I have seen new shooters pick up shooting very quickly. This process and order of teaching the fundamentals needs to be started with the most important and influential fundamentals that have affect shot placement. If we raise awareness of the highest priorities from the beginning, I believe the learning curve can be cut and the anxiety can be lowered.
