The Data Book by MOS Tactical is a good addition to anyone’s kit bag. Obviously it has military applications but it can be used for civilian excursions as well. This would have come in handy for me and my pal nearly 15 years ago when we got caught in an unpredicted huge storm that came in from the ocean.

On an intended 60 mile run from our starting point and into the forest, the rain, and insane pressing squall made us shelter in place.

Our map was nearly destroyed and then eventually lost. We had a choice to hunker down in the onslaught or try to make it back home; we chose the latter and did so without any needed navigational help. Sucked to be us.

A wet, soggy map is no map at all, so take precautions to protect your data.

The Data Book is just another item that you should consider purchasing. It has four, thick, double-sided, clear plastic pages and includes the front and back cover. For your convenience it also has a pen holder. The pen holder only has one opening in order to prevent your pen from slipping out the other side. It will hold small or even larger pens such as Sharpies.

It can help protect your maps and other documents from intrusive moisture. It is designed to fit inside a BDU pocket. This thing is lightweight, durable and good for all kinds of weather conditions. The upgraded Data Book they offer retails for $29.95. It has a MOLLE attachment affixed to the back and has a plastic backer to stabilize the unit.

The Data Book with armband has an elastic Velcro, Vel-Tye and is made as a slimmer version of the Data Book. It can be attached to the forearm. Its ambidextrous design allows the operator to position it to their personal preference. This retails for $28.95.

I like the G.I. style look and though it can be used for tactical/military missions it can be used for so much more. Purchase it in Wolfgray or Woodland and use it when fishing, camping, hiking or much more. There are other versions available in the market but I like the simplicity and price of this thing.

MOS Tactical is a Virginia based company. They are a small company that continues to work hard to get into the tactical market. I think they are going places because of their sincere desire to please the end-user. We will soon come out with our review on their SPAV Special Purpose Assault Vest. So far it has held up amazingly well and put to great use by shooter Jon Dufresne.

Material Disclosure: I was given these Data Books by MOS Tactical, though they are friends of Spotter Up, we will always give our readers fair reviews.

Functionality: 5/5 Very useful. Great for outdoors use. At 5″ x 6.5″ I think the size is perfect; not too small or overly large to be clumsy for handling.

Weight: 5/5 This is a lightweight item. It can be tucked into your trousers, small enough to fit into your pack, and weighs little.

Durability: 5/5 The books are very well constructed with a tough fabric, simple stitching, and use the 1000 Denier Cordura Nylon.

Appearance: 3/5 Simple design, tactical appearance. Very utilitarian. It isn’t an overall ‘sexy’ item with zippers, and other added features but it get’s the job done.

Cost: 3/5 The cost is wanting. This is understandable due to scale and the size of the company makes them unable to keep up with larger companies and Chinese made booklets that can be purchased via Amazon or Alibaba. Keep in mind your dollars go to support American made businesses that actually care about the end-user.

Overall Score: 20/25
