Pentagon Jeans

Overall I’ve been very pleased with the Pentagon jeans that Military1st sent me. The jeans are called the Pentagon Rogue Jeans and the jeans come in the color Indigo Blue. A good reliable pair of jeans will serve you for a very long time and they have more versatility than the standard tactical pants found on the consumer market because you can pair it with a dress shirt or jacket and blend in just about anywhere. You can look professional and be tactical while walking in an urban setting. Well, the consumer market is catching on and companies are listening too, and you can now find a few brands making the move into this consumer niche of tactical jeans. 5.11, Condor, Helikon-Tex and LAPG are just a few to come out with multi-purpose jeans. At $56.95 they are pretty affordable. Consider that Pentagon gives you a couple of features Levi’s, Abercrombie & Fitch (overpriced) and others cannot: Hardwearing denim with the right amount of pockets and fabric for freedom of movement. There is triple stitching at certain stress points for extra durability and they have a great style. I just paid $60.00 for a pair of Levi’s jeans.

They jeans are 100% cotton denim. This was surprising considering that most ‘tactical’ jeans are not partly elastic. Note that denim is a sturdy cotton warp-faced textile in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. This twill weaving produces a diagonal ribbing that distinguishes it from cotton duck. The most common denim is indigo denim, in which the warp thread is dyed, while the weft thread is left white. Hence the name Indigo Blue.

Anytime I purchase apparel I always ask myself what kind of weapon will I carry with it and what is my method of use? Accessibility is the most important factor to me when choosing pants. I want my pants to be loose enough so I can insert an IWB holster into them and I don’t want my pants to be tight fitting in the crotch or legs because I may have to kneel, or kick or run away.

If you are going to carry a large weapon with a long barrel/extended magazine it might be prudent to purchase a pair of high-rise jeans instead of low-rise. If you intend to do ankle carry it is recommended choosing boot-cut jeans, whereby you have more room at the ankles, over straight-leg jeans. The Pentagon jeans are more of a mid-rise than low or hi-rise. I can easily insert a large holster on my backside or a deep-concealment on my front side without any issues. A holster that fits closely to the body minimizes the chance of printing through clothing.

Fit

I wrote another article about jeans and I mentioned in it the need to avoid using skinny jeans if you are built a certain way. If you are going to carry an Inside the Waistband (IWB) holster instead of an Outside the Waistband (OWB) holster it would be wise to avoid buying tight, skinny jeans. Try to go with practical first before fashion. Purchase something that is comfortable and functional.

The Pentagon jeans give me enough room in crotch, the sides, and the seat of the pants, but the legs were too tight. Pentagon uses a diamond crotch for added comfort and freedom of movement. One of the things I did not like about the Pentagon is the cut of the pants along the calves. The jeans are stove-pipe cut. For a guy like me, who has big calves, I don’t like tight fitting material and straight leg jeans. I don’t like it for tactical reasons and I don’t prefer it for reasons of style. Skinny jeans are best for those who are tall and have slim builds. I have a stocky frame. Skinny modern jeans don’t do it for me however if you are looking at blending in then this is the way to go. This is the model sent to me but it may have been better for some of our skinnier authors. Stay with a minimal design that allows good movement, and few or no showy details. Look for good stitching and simple construction that makes the jeans wearable.

Waistbands should have enough room to insert a holster and pistol. Because your stomach expands or shrinks throughout the day adequate room allows your holster to fit comfortably even if you overeat. It’s important to get yourself measured and to not have a struggle when sliding jeans on. If you cannot button the jeans easily it is time to go up to the next size.  If you cannot easily slide your finger in-between your waist and the jeans itself with your holster inserted then it is time to go up a size or two. I ordered these in a 32″ waist and they fit perfectly and my wife even liked the fit however I got them replaced with the 33″ because one hot machine washing would have made the 32″ shrink way too much. The 33″ would give me enough room for any size IWB holster. The company was very good about getting me another size to review however the post office didn’t do a great job of doing a return.

Jeans should fit perfectly around your waist with no need for a belt to hold them up but wearing jeans with gear is another story. Belts do help to keep the gun in place securely and prevents your jeans from sagging. If you are between sizes where the larger size is too large and the smaller size is too small then go for the larger size and wear a belt. Pentagon uses six belts loops and the two in the front are reinforced by doubling it up. They are well-stitched to take the added weight of your belt and gear and keep it from shifting.

Pockets

Ensure your pockets are wide enough and deep enough to carry your wallet or EDC without bulging or too loose where you might possibly lose something when being active (running from danger, to danger, kneeling et al.) Are you able to access your pockets to reach your cell phone or pocket knife? I like the pockets on these jeans. Pentagon gives you two regular front hand pockets with reinforced fillets and inner sleeve pockets. You can use your Neomag with it, insert a multi-tool or some kind of knife with a clip. I inserted a 30 round magazine into the sleeve pocket just to see how deep the pockets were and it fit with a lot of room to spare.

There is a small front tool sleeve pocket on the right leg. Place a multi-tool or knife or cell phone in here. Excellent. The two rear pockets have a cool stitching pattern on them. Right above those rear pockets are two concealed magazine pockets. My Magpul magazine fits perfectly with them. These jeans really give you organized discrete fashion. Pentagon uses triple stitching on the stress points, genuine YKK zippers and the material is a hardwearing stone washed denim fabric.

Final Thoughts

I think Pentagon should consider coming out with a slim leg jean if they want to keep the hip style. Slim legs jeans styles are often mistaken for skinny jeans but are not as form fitting around the calf and thighs. For guys like me with big thighs the slim leg is a better choice than the skinny jeans. A straight leg jeans model is perfect for nearly all body shapes and will be a preferable style for many. Straight legs do do not have any tapering to the jean itself allowing for a solid shape throughout the jeans.  They are looser at the knee. Or they should come out with a wide leg or boot cut. Boot cut jeans taper at the ankle and can be paired easily with boots. Boot cut is excellent for ankle-holster concealed carry. I don’t care for ankle carry. I just figure you should practice more with what’s on your hip than going for an ankle-holster held firearm in my opinion.

These jeans look good, are comfortable, useful and priced-well. I would not purchase them unless they came out with a boot leg model but I like their concept. Some of our readers might really like these. If you are looking for a slick, modern look and lots of tactical advantage in an urban environment then consider the Pentagon jeans.
