The Fast Mag by ITW Military Products is a polymer and urethane mag holder. It is offered in many colors including Black, Tan, Foliage Green and Coyote Brown. It is a durable and versatile option for carrying M4/AR15 magazines, accommodating most 5.56/.223 magazines available.
Several technological enhancements were worked into the Fast Mag design allowing the carrier to be impact resistant, resistant to solar heating, non-reflective, modular and durable.
The Fast Mag keeps magazines secure without the usual bungee, flap or hook. The Fast Mag has an enhanced urethane tension strap that can be moved up or down to adjust the tension on the magazine. This feature allows the carrier to live up to its name by decreasing the time required to perform a reload as it removes the step of clearing any retention device mounted or attached at the top of a magazine pouch.
The Fast Mag is a versatile mag carrier. It can be mounted on any MOLLE/P.A.L.S. 1” web system. There are attachment slots for Malice clips as well. There is also a duty belt version available. Although the regular model can be worn on a belt.
The Fast Mag can be mounted so as to hold the magazine in the up or down configuration. The magazine can be placed rounds facing forward or rearward depending on the user preferences.
There are also attachment slots so that two Fast Mags can be placed one on the other to create a double stack mag carrier system. The attachment slots also allow for other pouches to be attached on the front of the Fast Mag increasing its modularity.
I have used the Fast Mag in several multi gun matches now. I have worn it mounted directly on my belt. It has been exactly what I had hoped for: secure and fast. Running between firing shooting boxes and moving in and out of awkward or unconventional shooting positions has not been an issue with the Fast Mag.
I put a loaded magazine in the Fast Mag and dropped it down the stairs and threw it off the deck neither of which caused it to come out of the Fast Mag. However, when the Fast Mag is properly anchored retrieving the magazine is easy. When placing a magazine in the holder you get a tactile response that the magazine is seated securely.
Whether you are looking for a magazine holder for a belt or for a duty rig you should take a hard look at the Fast Mag. It isn’t the best looking piece of gear available but it is functional.
