Minimalism when it comes to EDC is something of an art form. While we need to take stock of what we carry and why, having what we need, when we need it is essential. Everyone’s needs will vary. The goal of minimalism isn’t to eliminate essentials, it’s to make what we carry better, sleeker and more efficient. That’s good tactics.
Two items that most of us can improve upon is our wallet and how we carry our keys. That certainly was the case for me. A bulky back pocket wallet and bulging keys just didn’t cut it, especially with all my other EDC essentials. That’s likely the case for many readers.
After looking at a lot of options, and there are definitely a lot of options from which to choose, I went with a Magpul ® DAKA® Essential Wallet and a TEC Accessories P-7 Suspension Clip for my keys. Both not only met my needs, but are designed and made in the USA, which is also a big plus in my book. Just the ticket for the tactical gentleman or lady.
Magpul DAKA Essential Wallet
Magpul needs no introduction. The Magpul DAKA Essential Wallet is a sleek, thin minimalist wallet designed to carry what Magpul considers to be essential for daily life — three or four ID or access cards, three or four credit cards, and three emergency bills. It has a single pocket on the Magpul logo side for ID and access cards and two pockets on the other side for credit cards and currency.
Its a very practical design, unlike many of the minimalist wallets. On the market, With the DAKA Essential Wallet you know what to pull out at a glance without have to sort through all the contents. Although the DAKA Essential Wallet features state-of-the art high-tech construction, Magpul didn’t try to reinvent the wheel with its design. And that’s a good thing.
The DAKA Essential Wallet is made from four layers of tough, die cut, reinforced polymer fabric which are permanently RF welded together. It’s super strong. There are no seams to fail. The fabric is extremely durable, chemical resistant and non-hydroscopic. It has an anti-slip texture. It has rounded corners to help the wallet slide in and out of the pocket with ease.
The DAKA Essential Wallet is designed for front pockI’mt carry, which is how I prefer to carry a wallet. It measures just 4.13 x 2.75 inches (10.49 x 6.99 cm) and is 0.12-inch (3 mm) thin when empty. That’s less than two credit cards thick! The slim profile eliminates printing.
I have had the DAKA Essential Wallet for several years. It looks as good as new, has held it’s shape and holds the cards securely. The cards won’t fall out but can be easily accessed.
The DAKA Essential Wallet lacks RFID blocking, but it’s unnecessary since, in reality, it’s a solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist. RFID skimming rarely happens, it all. I’m not aware of any documented cases of real-world RFID credit card fraud..

TEC Accessories P-7 Suspension Clip
TEC Accessories is a Queen Creek, Arizona-based company that develops and manufactures distinctive high-quality products that are designed to fulfill a need.
I have found the TEC Accessories P-7 Suspension Clip to bes the ideal way to carry larger key ring items and eliminate “key fob bulge.” The P-7 Suspension Clip clips onto the top edge of your pocket, allowing any items clipped to it to be suspended part way into your pocket. It provides a flatter, more streamlined way of carrying key chain gear.
You can put larger items on the P-7 Suspension Clip to keep them separate from other items in the pocket. For example, you can attach larger objects, such as a small key chain flashlight, pocket knife, multi-tool or any small items that have a split ring or that you can attach a split ring. This allows you to keep them separate from other items in your pocket and provides easy access.
It’s not just for pockets, either. Women can clip it to the top edge of a purse or purse compartment. With the P-7 Suspension clip there’s no more digging around in the bottom of a purse for keys. The use for the P-7 Suspension Clip are only limited by the imagination.
The P-7 Suspension Clip is constructed of spring tempered stainless steel that maintains its grip on thick or thin material. You don’t run the risk of items falling out. It has an open tip design that makes it easy to grab the clip and pull it free.
The P-7 Suspension Clip is available with either a bead-blasted matte-finish or TEC Accessories proprietary diamond-like carbon Black Diamond Finish. The Black Diamond Finish is an exceptionally hard and wear resistant near-black Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating.
The P-7 Suspension Clip measures only 0.28-inch wide x 1.53 inches long (7 x 39 mm). It weigh just 0.11 oz (3.0 g). It’s designed to be very discrete. When clipped to a pocket, it’s barely noticeable. Only the outer fold of the clip is visible. It has a stylish design that won’t look out of place in business attire. It largely eliminates pocket bulge.
TEC Accessories offers a variety of optional stainless steel clips, including its superb Python Clip®. It’s far better option than standard spit rings. The gated Python Clip allows you to easily add or remove specific items, depending on your needs for the day.
